It’s been a lucky week. I was charmed by a kids’ show offered by Theatreworks USA free of charge at the Lucille Lortel on Christopher Street. The one act musical Junie B. Jones-is based on the late Barbara Park's series of books. The result of our peek into Junie’s diary inspired peppy lyrics by Marcy Heisler and music by her co-writer Zina Goldrich.

A six member cast in primary colors as is the zany schooldays set by Luke Cantarells cavort to songs like “Top Secret Personal Beeswax” and “When Life Gives You Lemons.

It’s like turning the pages of a happy coloring book. Spreading the joy are some talented youngsters and the young are some talented youngsters an the young at heart: Mary Faber as Junie, a real find; Jill Abramowitz;Keara Hailey; Michael McCoy; Darius Nichols; and Adam Overett. Guess what - Junie finds new friends and probably lives happily ever after. . .

Tickets are available at the box office of the theatre o the day of the performance, one hour prior to curtain time, 121 Christopher Street. Call (212) 642-6754 for a schedule through August 20th.
