CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS FOUNDATION AND NEW YORK LIFE

Participants in the prestigious Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Internship Program were recognized at a reception held at New York Life Insurance Company on Friday, July 9, 2004. Three of this year's 39 selected interns, Tomica Burke of Queens, NY , McDonald-Ian James of Brooklyn, NY , and Stephanie Logan of Brooklyn, NY pose with Gregory Tyson, senior vice president, New York Life [far right] and Dr. Maya Rockeymoore, vice president for research and programs, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

The summer program allows African-American undergraduates to work on Capitol Hill with a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and participate in roundtable discussions with other members, federal government officials and public policy experts. Ms. Burke is interning with Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-6-NY); Mr. James is interning with Rep. Major Owens (D-11-NY); and Ms. Logan is interning with Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-10-NY).

The program is funded in part by a grant from the New York Life Foundation. Through its Nurturing the Children initiative, the Foundation supports organizations, programs and services that target young people, particularly in the areas of mentoring, safe places to learn and grow, and educational enhancement opportunities.
